How it's calculated
Fuel cost per mile comes from the same engine as every other calculator on the site; maintenance and insurance are simply divided by your annual miles:
fuel $/mile = (economy in L/100km ÷ 100 × price per liter) × 1.609344
maintenance $/mile = annual maintenance ÷ annual miles · insurance $/mile = annual insurance ÷ annual miles

What's included in cost per mile here?
Fuel (from your economy and price), plus optional annual maintenance and insurance, each spread evenly across your annual miles. It doesn't include depreciation, financing/loan interest, or registration -- those are real ownership costs too, but they don't scale with miles driven the way fuel and wear-related maintenance do.
What should I put for annual maintenance?
A rough annual average of oil changes, tires, brakes and typical repairs -- your own service history is the most accurate source, but $600-$1,200/year is a common range for an average car with no major repairs in a given year.
Why is insurance optional?
Insurance cost per mile is really 'insurance cost you'd pay regardless of miles driven, spread across miles' -- useful for a total ownership picture, but not caused by driving the way fuel and maintenance are. Leave it at 0 to see just the mileage-driven costs.
How is this different from the Commute Cost Calculator?
The commute calculator gives a weekly/monthly/yearly total for one specific route. This calculator gives a flat rate per mile across your whole annual driving, useful for reimbursement comparisons, ride-share/delivery earnings math, or comparing two vehicles' full running cost rather than just their fuel economy.
